Do you think your habits are holding you back?
Whether it’s a New Years Resolution that has gone by the wayside or you are thinking about Feb Fast which is quickly approaching, there is something that all of us could be better off living without.
Of course the classic examples of ‘bad habits’ are excessive alcohol intake, drinking more coffee then recommended, sugar consumption, etc, get my drift? There are also other things that we do in our daily lives which essentially, are not good for us that we ignore. So deeply programmed into our being, it would seem that we don’t even think of them as a learned behaviour.
For some this might be limited self belief, continually staying in unhealthy relationships, communicating with others in an unconscious way, obsessive cleaning, placing expectations on others and more.
Some of us may even habitually create obsticals in our lives, which bring about a sense of overwhelm. An example of this might be; dumping everything on your kitchen bench when you get home, with a plan to put it away later. You then go to prepare dinner and you are faced with a kitchen full of mess, which needs to be cleared before cooking. Instantly you are filled with frustration and make a decision to be cranky, or order take out.
Our busy lives are such, that habits are created all the time. They sneak into our lives like dust balls on a freshly swept floor, and create little piles of dirt. Almost invisible at first, they gently grow, surrounding our space until it is visibly filthy. Before we know it we need to get the vacuum out and suck it all up. The floor then appears clean, but the dust is hidden within the vacuum cleaner. Not always totally dealt with.
The trick is to empty that vacuum bag into the bin and get rid of it!
Temporarily letting of a habit, may have short term emotional and physical benefits. However long term commitment to change, is the magic that will really enhance your life.
I have spent 20 years, consciously working on personal change. I am still awork in progress. Sometimes I totally rock it, other times it can be a huge struggle.
The main thing I have found success with, is letting go of the ideals set by my family of origin, instead creating my own, which are organic and keep growing. Allowing change to move through my life freely, has opened my heart to self love, acceptance and freedom of choice.
Feb Fast is a great initiative, which raises money for all sorts of wonderful causes including mental health and addiction. I’ve included a link here for you if you would like to take a look at their site.
While I am not affiliated with Feb fast in anyway, I am all for kicking habits!
During February, I will be on board to share techniques with those of you who would like support in giving up a habit for good.

People start to heal the moment they feel heard.
Hundreds of people walk through the doors of the Awen room every year. What I have found is that there is a pattern of lingering. For some reason the Awen room seesms to provide a sanctuary to many, giving them space not only for their treatments and classes, Awen is a space where people like to share.
Many of my clients like to linger, telling stories of their personal struggles, triumphs, relationship issues, health worries. Some like to share recipes, others like to share stories of holidays or adventures.
Some of my clients have social anxiety, PTSD, and intimacy issues, but they share. Some clients are social butterflies on the surface, but have no one to talk to about personal issues, they need a shoulder to cry on. A space for emotional release. Some are lonely, some are shy. For whatever reason, my ‘lingerers’ (said with the greatest respect and affection) like to stay.
I allow time between my clients and classes, to check in pre and post treatment. In fact I leave 30 mins between each client.
This provides time for a ‘quick’ chat (10 mins) after treatment.
I then need to use 10 mins to reset the room, changing linen, put towels in the washing machine, hang out the previous load, make tea, a space clearing for the treatment area, and a ‘very’ quick bathroom break.
Then the last 10 mins is used to meet and great my next client. Phew, those stairs and that little rush keeps me fit. 30 minutes is greatly shortened, and pushing people out the door is something that I really feel uncomfortable doing.
I cannot ignore the need for people to feel heard. I appreciate and respect this need.
So, I have decided to offer my ears, my heart and my time to listen. Introducing A Cuppa With Ange
I am setting aside 45 mins per week, to have a chat and a cup of tea with whomever would like to join me. This is one on one time, no strings attached. No counselling, no judgment, no therapy, no selling.
I am here just to listen to whatever you want to talk about. Think of it like a cup of tea with a friend. I am not charging a fee for listening, if you would like to make a contribution financially you are welcome to, if you are unable to, that is absolutely ok as well, I really want to provide a trusted space for you to feel heard, that is payment enough for me.
It is time for you to come and visit me, it will be casual, and we can just chat about whatever you want.
- At this point, there will be one ‘Cuppa with Ange’ per week that I can afford to give, so you will need to book in. I haven’t thought of the best way to do this yet, so let’s just say, that you send me an email, and a day that suits you and we can find a time.

Are you tired of being bombarded with ‘New Year, New You’ inspiration on social media.
Do you make New Years Resolutions? The word resolution is defined as ‘to make a firm decision to do or not do something’. You may like to ponder that for a moment.
I cannot remember a year in my adult life, where I have not thought about becoming better as New Year’s Eve ticked over. I have written lists and set goals. I used to think about becoming kinder, giving up a habit, looking after my health, work goals, family goals and more.
What I have found, is the more I let go, the better the results.
I believe we are all born a perfect shining light.
Then life happens. Our light becomes obstructed by emotions, expectations, triumphs and failures.
We become what we see in the mirror. A human carrying emotional baggage, weighed down by the the expectations of our own and others. We carry with us shimmering trophies of our successes and the heavy burden of our failures.
Our shining light is dimmed, we yearn for change. Yet, so many of us seem to hurtle toward New Years Eve hurting. Having one last party, one last drink, one last excessive meal, one last social engagement that we are too exhausted to attend.
New Year’s Day arrives ever so gently, we wake weary, some with a hurting head, some with a hurting heart and we resolve to change. To release our imperfections, let go of the baggage, to strive to be the best we can. Here is a new beginning, another cycle of the same old stuff.
What if you made no resolutions for 2019?
Your perfect inner light, is glowing, always.
Here is another definition for you, perfect; ‘having all the desirable elements, qualities or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.’
Meditation has taught me the following;
- I cannot be defined by my emotional baggage.
- I am not a result of my own expectations, or those of my family of origin.
- I am not the success of my education, financial status, or my physical abilities.
- I am not anchored by my failures, habits, or regrets.
I am in fact a bright shining perfect light. I am love, with no beginning and no ending. I am all knowing, I have all that I need.
With this knowledge, I have no need for resolutions. When I meditate and connect with this knowledge, I naturally tend, to my needs with compassion, love and forgiveness. I nurture my body, my mind and my spirit. It is easy.
Let’s be real though, I am human. So, I absolutely stuff this up, often. (So annoying!)
I fall into taking the path of the least resistance and reach for another handful of food I don’t need. I buy another item that is not necessary, in search for the instant satisfaction that will make my life better, for a moment. Just one moment.
Meditation allows me to strip away the layers, to sit with my perfect light and connect with the greater good. It allows me to simply be me, without the need to change in anyway. It allows me to love myself and everything around me unconditionally.
When I do this I am a light that shines forever. I can reach all corners of the earth, and beyond.
When I open my eyes. I feel the need to nurture and love myself more then ever before.
My life becomes exactly what is perfect for me.
I am satisfied and full.
There is no need to search for a new you this new year.
There is no need to change a thing about yourself. Just peel away the layers. Let your perfect inner light glow, luminous, effervescent.
I cannot wait to see it.
