Here is a lovely Winter Solstice meditation idea for you!
Today we celebrate the shortest day and longest night of the year for the Southern Hemisphere.
For me this is the most special time of the wheel of the year. It is a time where the sacred idea of letting go and new beginnings coincide. It is a time to welcome the sunshine back into your heartspace as the days from here on start to get longer as we move toward the warmer months.
At home we mark this occasion with a special dinner, to me it feels like Christmas but better. It is a time of being together, reflection, feasting and contemplation.
We have a big pot of Wasail boiling away all day, the table is decorated, the fire is on, we eat foods that represent warmth, pumpkin, curry, orange and spice.
I feel that the earth feels different, there seems to be a twinkle in the eyes of passers by, an element of fun and energy in the air.
Here is a ritual that you might like to consider bringing into your day to mark this special time.
- Find a quiet place to sit or do this with family, light a candle, and turn off the lights.
- For a few moments, gently gaze at the flame. Looking at this one singular point can help quiet your mind so you can focus your attention inward. Deepen your breath as you watch the the flickering light.
- Then, with your eyes still on the flame, bring to mind the past year . Play through the highs and lows your mind, without judging or assigning meaning to any of the memories that come up. Continue until you feel like you’ve run through enough of the year to move on.
- Gently move your attention away from the flame andlook in the mirror. Consider the challenges of the year—your regrets, mistakes, and missed opportunities—and whisper, “I forgive the dark and move into the light” to yourself, you may like to say this several times. Look back at the candle as a symbol of the bright new hope and wonderful new beginnings that may come your way over the next 12 months. You might like to take time to write some of theses down in your journal.
- You might like to conclude the ritual by making a commitment to wake with the sun tomorrow if you can, using the first few moments of the day to move your body, meditate, eat a nourishing breakfast, get outside, or do anything else that makes you feel happy and hopeful.
Wishing you a beautiful Solstice!
When you visit Awen, you don’t just get any old massage.
This ritual is a beautiful harmony between western massage and eastern spiritual tradition.

Angela’s review of Perfect Potion’s Cinnamon Facial Scrub
As many of you know, I have recently received a lovely big order of Perfect Potion Skincare here at Awen. I am loving getting to know each product and over the next few weeks I will be sharing my experiences of each of them with you.
The Cinnamon Facial Srub is an exfoliation product recommended for oily / combination skin. It comes in a sweet little 50g amber jar. At first I was a little concerned that the jar was so small, I also was worried about wastage as you need to scoop out the product rather then squeeze it out of a tube. All of my concerns were washed away after using it.
This scrub has a pleasant earthy aroma, which I immediately found very grounding. The texture is light and it’s not quite a liquid, not quite a paste. I found that this means that you really dont need a lot of product at all to exfoliate your whole face as it spreads easily.
Used on a damp clean face the cinnamon and polished walnut shells gently buff your skin, when massaged gently in a circular motion.
The scrub really felt as though it was doing the job, the tiny granules of cinnamon and polished walnut are not sharp, and are small enough to feel as though they are really able to roll across each pore efficiently. I used an amount about the size of a pea, which was enough to exfoliate my whole face and neck.
I removed the srub using a warm face cloth, it came off easily, using firm but gently strokes, I then continued with my skincare regimen. You could also rinse it off in the shower.
My skin was left feeling warm as the circulation really was stimulated nicely. It’s good to have that fresh new blood doing it’s good work just beneath the surface.
My skin was also left feeling smooth and soft and my serum, moisturiser and sunscreen really seemed to sit against my skin beautifully after all of those dead skincells were gently sloughed away.
I really loved using this product, it is good to have something natural, yet effective to work with. I’ll certainly be using it on a weekly basis through the summer months when my skin does tend to become more oily.
If you are considering buying it, I suggest using something other then your fingers to get it out of the jar, as you don’t want to be adding any unwanted bacteria to your beautiful product, perhaps a small spoon or spatula.

The Gohan Ceramic Diffuser is the best!
If you are like me, you love Essential Oils. Not only for their beautiful aroma but also for theirhealing qualities.
Visitors to Awen always comment on the beautiful aroma when they walk in. I am a lover of the the sensory world, so I really enjoy creating new sensations and experiences for my clients ( and myself ) to enjoy.
If you haven’t heard of ‘Perfect Potion’ you’ve been missing out! I can tell you that their products are just beautiful. Simply packaged, Perfect Potion is an Australian brand who creates an innovative and holistic range of natural therapy products, which will not only nurture the body, mind and spirit, but also respects the delicate balance of our environment.
I fell in love with their Chakra Balancing essential oil package first, which lead me to visit their beautiful store in Bondi Junction. I was drawn to linger much longer then I expected to as I played with their beautiful skin care, sipped some divine herbal tea and endulged in a lovely sensory experience.
Dappled thoroughout the store was a variety of Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffusers. Now, If you already own a diffuser, you will already know that the aroma that gently wafts through your space will lift your senses and enhance your well being which is great. What I want you to check though, is whether or not your diffuser is Ultrasonic.
Ordinary diffusers simply diffuse the oil and omit a fine mist, which pushes aroma through your space. If you really want to feel uplifted an ultrasonic diffuser is the way to go. An ultrasonic diffuser negates the positive ions which can be detrimental to our health. These positive ions are present because of electronics, plastic and other polluting chemicals in our environment.
Here is the good news, after visiting Perfect Potion’s beautiful store, I really felt it was the perfect fit for Awen, I came home and wrote to them straight away. After they took took time to research little old Awen they too found that we are a perfect fit! I have now been authorised to not only use their beautiful skincare for Awen’s treatments but also to stock their gorgeous products so that you guys can take the experience home with you!
So, this week I am putting together my first order! How exciting! I will be ordering the 2 items I fell in love with first, the Gohan Ceramic Diffuser, ( available in Black and White, $94.95) although there is a wait on the white one as it’s super popular. I’m also ordering the Chakra Balancing Essential oils kit ($89.95)
This kit contains seven 5ml chakra blends made from the finest quality aromatherapy grade essential oils:
balance blend: base chakra
allure blend: sacral chakra
harmony blend: solar plexus chakra
compassion blend: heart chakra
expressive blend: throat chakra
insight blend: third eye chakra
cosmic blend: crown chakra
Includes the Practical Guide to Chakras and Aromatherapy booklet
I’m really looking forward to sharing this products with you, and hope to be using Perfect Potion Skin Care for all facial Treatments by the end of next week. I am slowly adding the range to Awen’s online Store, so that you can select what you would like to order and then pick up at Awen ( or I can arrange deliver for you).
I’d like to offer you 10% off your first order, so have a look at what is listed so far and email, or message me your order. This offer is valid until Monday 20 May.
I will continue to add products until Sunday 19th.
If you have any questions about the products, the range or what will be on offer please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m sure these products well really enhance your experience here at Awen, I hope you fall in love with them as I have!

Welcome to April🍁🍂
Isn’t t it wonderful to see the colours of the leaves changing on the trees? Autumn really is beautiful here in the mountains. As the leaves will begin to fall over the next few weeks, I am reminded that I also have layers I need to let fall away.
This can can be a lovely reminder to check in with yourself, do you have routine that is stagnant or unhealthy? Habits that you know you’d be better off without? Relationships with people that just are not good for your heart space?
What can you do to change it up?
I am always thinking of new ways to reinvent my days, and routine, to prevent falling into old habits.
Here are a few of the the things I have brought into my life recently, that are already changing the way I feel;
🍁 No screens in bed. This means no checking emails, social media, watching movies, or responding to messages. I have done this before, and then fallen back into the habit of taking my work to bed with me. I know better, but it takes a little extra organise attention and a little bit of will power to stick with it. Since I’ve started this again, I find I fall asleep in minutes and my bed feels like the restful space that it should be. Try it an see how you go.
🍁 Booking ahead for massages! Normally I am pretty good at this, however sometimes life gets busy and I miss a couple of weeks. Then I get sore! Massage is my first port of call when I feel a little down or my body is tired. I’m currently booked in every fortnight and I tell you it works wonders. Along with stretching, it keeps me supple and able to give my clients the attention they deserve. 💙
🍁 Continuing to be alcohol and coffee free. The best thing I have ever done for my body is to stop drinking alcohol. Then I decided to kick coffee as well. Living life that is totally free of substance is amazing. I feel confident that my emotions are not tainted with stimulants. I feel more authentic in my relationships. I am a better listener and I have so much more energy. If you’d like to kick these habits, let me know and I’ll share with you the ways that I finally did it.
🍁 Planing things to look forward to that are healthy, outdoors and frequent. If I don’t do this, life feels like Groundhog Day. Over the next couple of months I have hikes, camps and outdoor fires planed to really allow time to reflect, and connect with Mother Nature as well as my inner self.
🍁 Study, learning new things allows me to continually evolve and grow. I’m currently doing a post graduate, which has been deep and gruelling, so I’ve mixed it up and have a couple of fun courses I am doing as well. Short courses keep me stimulated, which allows focus and the excitement of learning to continue to grow. There are so many courses out there, have a look around and see what you can find.
I wish you all a wonderful April! Below I have some new Awen dates for you, if you see something that you are interested in but the times or days done suit, let me know, I’m always happy to run extra classes if the need is there.
22 April is Earth Day.
Awen will be holding a special meditation event.
You are invited to share a loving kindenes meditation in the Awen Room.
$25 / person
$5 donated from each booking to https://www.earthday.org/campaigns/endangered-species/earthday2019/
Dates for Sound Bath Meditation
There are 3 spaces left for our Easter Sound Bath. I have some dates here for May and June as well. I suggest booking ahead.

Connect with me and we can discuss a time where you can bring your people here for your own special event. This can be very helpful in time of stress, grief, and celebration alike.
